How many more must die before we refuse to grandfather unsafe buildings for political expediency? How many must die before we place life safety on the same level as corporate profit?

Go browse through the fire investigation reports at NFPA. Time after time after time, the same damn things: locked, blocked, obstructed exits; overcrowding; no sprinklers; no training.

Maybe the thing to do is stop censoring the news reports. Let Fox or MSNBC show the charred corpses being removed, let the public see what fire does to a human body, let the media tag along on notifications to record the agonized screams of a new widow.

Or, for those business owners who don't give a damn, lock 'em in their own buildings and toss in a match.

Wilmington pencil pushers have set many trends, during the layoff they claimed that the Squad concept, i.e.: placing a Heavy Rescue O.O.S. and replacing it with 2 Squad companies was the trend then too. Seems funny I remember department keeping their Heavy Rescues and supplementing them with Squads....what was I thinking !!!???

Can anyone tell me how the hell you crash into a bright yellow ambulance with flashing lights and siren??? I find it hard to miss that. Also the sirens on medic 20 are loud enough that when they pull out of base 2 my dogs can hear them from 2 miles away.

I've seen a pumper with a tow hitch but that was in the 1990s and wasn't actually used to tow what it was set up for. Because it didn't work well. I'm not sure that makes for a trend.

We're using trailers, but they're towed by large pick ups, certainly not engines. Perhaps they got a bit excited and forgot to actually ASK anyone about this "growing trend."

Someone needs to have this yahoo examined for mental competence. Sounds like early on-set alzhimers or stroke related dementia. Surely there is some sort of legal loophole to remove crazy people from office. Whats next? Gonna sell off the city hall? The disposal of township equipment at half price is malfeasance at the very least. If surrounding townships and depts are smart, they would steer well clear of this looney tune and back up their firefighting brothers by refusing any further assistance to this wiener.

There needs to be a recall of this Trustee...fast! He is dismantling the fire department (and EMS?).

Everything he has sold, should be investigated. If the property sold was taxpayer paid for, then all applicable laws (put out on bids when selling, etc.) to sell it, need to be explored. Also, if the property was sold at less than market value. This may put a legal kink in the sale of taxpayer property, not to mention that it is needed for life and property!

If i was a taxpayer in this jurisdiction and had the legal option to do so, I would petition the court to have a "cease and desist" order forbidding the sale of anymore property, until a court hearing is held. Aggreived taxpayers could argue that property was being sold for less than market value. Also, public safety could be at stake, if the fire dept. was disbanded.

Another issue that could get people roiling, is if the fire department closes, then the insurance premiums could be raised, if the ISO rating is jepordized.

This Trustee must be an executive of the US Postal Service. Selling off the infrastructure of the country and tearing apart a needed service.

I have never stated that the FD is over budget. And the fire chief told me himself that they are UNDER budget this fiscal year. My update includes more facts from my interview with him.

Local Responder: How do you downsize an all-volunteer fire department? I've never heard of such a thing.

You're correct, Thom. I mistakenly called it Amazon Plus in the article (since corrected) and should have known better because I have a Prime account myself. But I was still only on my 2nd cup of coffee while I was writing that this morning.

About the only products they do not give the free shipping (for Prime customers) are products from 3rd-party vendors and things that require road freight instead of parcel delivery.
